Tabor, a theme for growing your audience

Over the last few weeks I have had quite a lot of requests to release the WordPress theme that runs this website. I’m happy to announce that my WordPress theme, appropriately named “Tabor“, is available.

I built the Tabor WordPress theme out of a need for a lightening-fast and highly-optimized theme to share my words and grow my audience. Unfortunately, these type of hyper-purposeful WordPress themes are becoming few and far between. So I did what any sensible WordPress theme developer would do—I made one.

Tabor is a single-purpose WordPress theme. With full support for OptinMonster, Yoast, Schema, MailChimp for WordPress and more, Tabor is readily-built for content marketing. It is scalable, resource-light, and designed for efficient reading and writing; you won’t find bloat here.

Only purposeful design and effective delivery.

Rich, have you tried/used EDD (Easy Digital Downloads) with this theme yet? Do you think it will be compatible?

    1. Rich Tabor Avatar

I have not, though I’ll give it a run and see what happens. 🙂

      1. Alex Avatar

Hey Rich, did you ever get the chance to test the theme with Easy Digital Downloads?

      2. Rich Tabor Avatar

No, I have not. You may spin up a sandbox (click here) and give it a shot though. 👍

  2. Terence Avatar

I have just realised you run EDD extensively with one or two of your other themes, so I am confident you know what’s required. So as soon as you tell me you think it should work, or that you will make sure it works in the future, I will go ahead and sign up and join the club.

    1. Rich Tabor Avatar

So EDD works fine, though there are no custom styles/templates to make the theme more “shop-like”. Each The /downloads/ display just as the blogroll does, and the single downloads display just like the singular blog posts.

      1. Terence Avatar

Rich, do you have any plans to add the styles/templates to make the theme more shop-like? Or, maybe you would be prepared to publish a how to, with some code snippets, for those who, like me, would love to use the theme, but need the EDD functionality to work like it was intended?

      2. Rich Tabor Avatar

I don’t have plans at the moment. Adding shop functionality to a theme for writers doesn’t fit 100% in line with the theme. Although writing a post on how to extend the theme with EDD functionality is a good idea. ?

      3. Terence Avatar

I think you would probably agree that we often do things with a good intention, and by design, only to find out that other folk see it differently and want to do it another way entirely. Its all part of life’s rich pageant. Or in your case, all part of life’s pageant, Rich. 🙂

      4. Rich Tabor Avatar

Agreed! Haha, nice one Terence! ??

  3. Terence Avatar

Thanks Rich. But I think I would perhaps prefer one of your other themes; perhaps one of those which were intended to be an ecommerce platform would be best.

  4. Basit Avatar

I think the richtabor theme price was just 50$, but what Happened to that?

    1. Rich Tabor Avatar

Hey mate, it’s always been at least $59 on ThemeBeans.com. Sometimes I’ll have a $10 discount link floating around though. ?

      1. Jeremy Avatar

        Any Black Friday deals?

      2. Rich Tabor Avatar

Not for Tabor itself, but I am for the Lifetime Membership. ?

  5. Abdulmohsen Alduwaisan Avatar

    Hello Rich,
First of all, thank you for making such a wicked theme. One question: how well does it play with the Beaver Builder Plugin?

    Thanks!

    1. Rich Tabor Avatar

Hi Abdulmohsen! I’m glad you’re liking the theme — it’s by far my favorite to date.

I have a few tidbits here and there to improve Beaver Builder compatibility. For instance, the page title shows up by default, but if BB is installed and activated on a page, the title will go away so that you have a blank canvas to work with. ?

  6. Basit Avatar

I want to take a look on theme options and customization, can you please provide the screenshots or any demo formate of wp dashboard of theme?

    Regards ?

    1. Rich Tabor Avatar

You can actually take the theme for a test drive (admin, Customizer, even Gutenberg compatibility) by clicking this link. It’ll send you a sandbox which you can test out just about everything. ?

      1. Basit Avatar

        The link is not working!

      2. Rich Tabor Avatar

It’s not pulling up a popup (screenshot) after a second or two?

  7. Alex Avatar

I have been using your theme for a couple months now and it definately is one of my favourite, lots of little things that all add up to make it great.

The only thing I feel is missing is different blog posts (block archive) styles like two column, masonry, grid etc.. which is more ideal for blogs that publish alot of articles do you have any plans to add this?

Otherwise keep up the great work!

    1. Rich Tabor Avatar

Thanks Alex! I’ve been planning something along those lines, but with all the Gutenberg works I’ve pushed those plans back to focus on the new editor.

  8. Erwan Jesson Ripoll Avatar

    Hi Rich,
Great work on the Tabor theme which I just bought for my blog!
Quick question though. I don’t seem to be able to configure the Blog page to only show excepts for the first few articles, and a basic image/title for the older one. I don’t seem to find any option anywhere, tbh. Am I getting blind or stupid?

    1. Rich Tabor Avatar

I’m glad you like it Erwan! You can actually set just the excerpt to appear under the Blogroll section of the Theme Options Customizer panel. Here’s a screenshot. You need to be on the blogroll view for that section to appear in the Customizer as well.

  9. Jorge Avatar

Hi Rich, I love the theme. It remainds me of the style 37 signals used to have years ago. Minimalist, only essensials. Congratulations!

I took it for a ride and I’m ready to buy it today. I see is $79 on themeforest and $59 here.

What’s the difference? or is it the same package?

Thanks in advance. Again, Great Job!

    Jorge

    1. Rich Tabor Avatar

Hi Jorge, thanks for the kind words! I only net ~30% from themes sold on ThemeForest, vs. ~95% on my site here, which is why the price is considerably higher off of my shop. The packages are the same, though the ThemeBeans versions are typically updated quicker (as it’s an automated process).

      1. Jorge Avatar

        Thanks for responding so fast.
I will buy it here in the next few minutes.
        Thanks again. Jorge

  10. Darren Stehle Avatar

Love this minimal theme. How well do you think it would work with podcast episodes?
I publish a mix of articles and episodes, and am aiming for 300-600 words for a podcast post: https://darrenstehle.com/blog/

I’m using the Bluburry Powerpress plugin.

    Thanks!

    1. Rich Tabor Avatar

Appreciate it Darren! From the looks of it, I think it’ll display just like it does on your blog now, as the player is wrapped in an iFrame.

      1. Darren Stehle Avatar
        Darren Stehle

Just downloaded CoBlocks to see the basic workings. With Tabor, I still need to know about a few other options like,

Can I adjust my blog roll display in any way?
        What are the footer options?

        Thanks

      2. Rich Tabor Avatar

        Hi Darren,

There are a few controls for customizing the blogroll (such as using the excerpt vs. full content, and turning on/off featured images) but the overall one-column display does not change much. If you’d like, spin up a sandbox (click here) and check out the inner workings of the theme first-hand. 👍

      3. Darren Stehle Avatar

I switched my site over to CoBlocks and LOVE the fonts and simplicity. I was considering a podcast-supportive theme, but I tend to write longer posts (or) episode notes, so I still tend towards writing.

My question: you offer in post types: video in Tabor. Any plans to offer “audio”? That may be redundant, since how things display on my site now, the Bluburry podcast player is immediately under the image in the blogroll. The only things I find irksome, is that the player is flush left. I would look more elegant centred, and wonder if that may be the case in Tabor.

      4. Rich Tabor Avatar

        Hi Darren,

I’m happy to hear that! I have a lot planned for the CoBlocks plugin — it’s about to level-up in a very big way.

While Tabor does support the video format, like you said – they are nearly redundant now. The only benefit of using a audio or video post format would be that the media would display in lieu of the featured image on blogroll/index views.

I’ll push a patch to resolve the player display issue, but in the meantime you may add this gist to your Customizer > Additional CSS panel and it should center the player. 👍

  11. Darren Avatar

The gist works. Thank you so much! I will upgrade to Tabor shortly. Having seen how elegant the CoBlocks theme is, I look forward to the extra controls, while maintaining the simplicity of this theme.
Thank you! I have been looking for this kind of simplicity for a long time.

    1. Rich Tabor Avatar

Awesome Darren! If you ever run into any snags, feel free to hit us up at support@themebeans.com. You’ll have the whole team at your disposal. 👍

  12. Ying Avatar

    Hi Rich,
Thanks for making such a great theme! It almost meets the exact experience we want for our blog. 😍

    Some quick questions,
    1. Is there a grid layout for articles like this one? This need is quite essential to us as grid view can brings great navigation efficiency (https://darinka.design/waves/)
    2. Is it OK to run without Gutenberg? Gutenberg is great but we haven’t be ready for the upgrade right now.

    Thanks!

    1. Rich Tabor Avatar

      Hi Ying,

Thanks! I actually don’t have a grid layout option for the blogroll, though that is something I’ve thought about adding. And for your second question, you don’t have to run Gutenberg. Alternatively, you could use the Classic Editor plugin and push new posts to Gutenberg – but keep old ones on the Classic Editor. Just an idea. 👍

Been using this theme for a couple days and got to say I’m enjoying it and some of your other WP offerings, great work.

  14. Celia Avatar

Installed this theme a few days ago and it is already my favorite : )

  15. Jorge Avatar

Does anyone knows how to change the twitter icon for X icon at the left bottom of page in the Tabor theme?
