    Hi Rich,

Will you continue to publish your own themes after sharing the current one and when will it be released? Will Wei and Wabi continue to be maintained?

    1. Rich Tabor Avatar

Yes, yes, and yes. I’m working on getting this theme ready and have a few updates for both Wei and Wabi in the pipeline. I love sharing my themes and blocks; folks get cool stuff, maybe learn a few things, and I learn a few things as well.

Thank you Rich your themes are needed again. Between the cleanness, speed and now what WordPress can do it will be a great day when you drop this one.

        Working on it!

How to quickly approve translation contributions to WordPress? With the current fast development rate, the approve speed is very slow for the Vietnamese versions that I send—because this is not anyone’s specific responsibility.

I would suggest finding who has been reviewing/translating those translations, and figure out how you can better tag-team reviews together.

Hi Rich, love the work you do. A more general question from me, as a marketer/SEO and web optimization. I still often get pushback against the WP block editor and Gutenberg. It might be given their past experience in Gutenberg 1.0, and rightfully so. How do you see this evolving, and how can WordPress help more front-end developers get onboard? Thanks 🙂

    1. Rich Tabor Avatar

Hey, thanks! While SEO primarily depends on content, the editor experience can enhance content creation efficiency and ease. Gutenberg’s improvements since 1.0 make it more intuitive, helping marketers and developers produce and optimize content seamlessly. It’s improved quite a bit since then; give it a try 🙂

When will that shiny new UI for WordPress be released. And if you know, what are the current biggest challenges to it being released?

    1. Rich Tabor Avatar

It’s a work in progress; the biggest challenge is making sure all areas of the admin are accounted for properly in the new paradigm. There’s not a specific timetable, but it’s moving ahead.

Hey Rich, thanks for doing this AMA. I’m a self-employed developer, who was a very early adopter of the Block Editor (made possible thanks to a handy block plugin by a guy name Rich). I’m excited to see that recently there’s more focus and tutorials for people like me who build custom theme from scratch for clients. Is that something you expect to continue (and maybe to get even more attention)?

    1. Rich Tabor Avatar

      Hey thanks!

Yes, indeed. Designing themes—both for distribution and bespoke client sites—is paramount to making the WordPress experience stronger. I have a few tutorials in the pipeline myself.

Patterns (with Categories & Images)  EXPORT / IMPORT

    Hi Rich,

I’m trying to figure out what is the best process for me to use for getting my personal/customized Patterns from website-to-website.

I don’t know if I should use WordPress … export/import one pattern at a time via “json” file. Then re-establish Categories & Images each time.

Or if I should maintain my patterns outside of WordPPress in PHP files.

    Or some other combination.

I would love to here how you do it & any recommendations for me.

In general, I would like the ability to Export/Import ALL of my personal and customized patterns, from one website to another. And included in that Export/Import would be …
    ○ Bulk Export/Import all patterns checked off.
    ○ Categories that patterns have been assigned to.
    ○ Images that are used in the patterns.
    ○ Images put in a  folder, that can be carried with exported patterns.

    Thank you!

You could create a plugin that “carries” your patterns around with you on the sites you activate it on. Or you could alternatively use the Pattern Directory, loading patterns from there within your theme.

Have you tried using the standard export tooling for WordPress?
